The Cutest Figure Skating Boutique ~ IN ORLANDO?!?

That’s right! Now open in the sunny vacation town of Orlando, Florida is the cutest figure skating boutique you’ve ever seen! Come on! I will give you a tour!

The theme of the store is apparent from the moment you walk through the door. From the icy white walls trimmed in white Christmas lights to the sparkle of rhinestoned shirts and dresses dancing on the walls, you immediately feel transported to a winter wonderland – boutique style!

Walking through the first room of the boutique, all of the colors from the Sweet Ice figure skating practice wear collection for girls fills the space. Chocolate, sweet pink, lemonade, sassy pink ~ It is like walking through an icy version of Candyland. The boutique style entry table is even merchandised with candy jars, glass vases full of layered lacy tops, and a candy bowl full of coordinating headbands.

On the right is an adorable area where the cutest, sparkliest figure skating dresses take center stage. On glitter covered wooden post, looking much like ice covered fence posts, hang gorgeous, custom made, one of a kind figure skating dresses. With so many individual tastes and interpretations of what conveys a theme, selecting figure skating apparel to go with your program can be a challenge! When navigating your way through selecting a themed figure skating dress, here are several things to consider:

- Choose a figure skating dress in a shade of the main body color that is complimentary to your skin tone. For instance, if performing an Irish piece, consider many different shades of green and select one that makes you look your best.

-Choose a figure skating dress design that enhances your program’s and skating’s best features. For example, if you are a strong spinner, choose a skirt that creates motion with your spin such as a full multi-layered skirt.

Figure skating apparel should always have some sparkle! While rhinestones aren’t required, some sparkle most certainly is expected. Make sure the figure skating dress you choose has either high quality AB Swarovski crystals or is a design that includes sequined or sparkly fabrics. When choosing figure skating apparel, there are many things to consider. Making a

selection that meets your needs is important because it can effect your comfort level during figure skating practice.

And your practice is probably already intense enough without the added frustration of your skating apparel leaving you feeling damp or cold.

Things you should look for in figure skating apparel:

- Quality construction consisting of strong, serged seams

- Durable, heavy weight lycra/spandex blend fabrics for maximum motion. T-shirts that include spandex are great, too

- Antimicrobial properties: This helps keep odor at bay when you perspire.

- Moisture wicking properties: This helps keep outside moisture out while wicking moisture away from your skin, helping keep you warm and dry.

- Don’t forget to consider your skating level. Younger skaters and beginners move a lot slower and aren’t generating the body heat of higher level skaters.

- Make sure beginner skaters are wearing layers and always protect fingers and ears!!

Choosing figure skating apparel can be a challenge. Some people live in an area where clothes are readily available at any one of the numerous rinks in their area. Others are limited to only shopping on line so it is hard to know what to select. When shopping for figure skating pants, there are a few things you want to consider.

1- Make sure you either try on figure skating pants or, if shopping on line, be sure you can exchange your purchase, if necessary.

2- Look for figure skating pants with both antimicrobial properties as well moisture wicking properties. Both of these features combined help reduce odor from perspiration and keep you dry.

3- Choose figure skating pants made from heavy weight, quality lycra/spandex blended material, 10-14 oz is best. Avoid thinner, light weight pants – sliding across the ice from a fall is not only tough on you but tough on your pants as well! Be sure they can hold up!

4- Make a statement! With so many colorful figure skating pants available, every figure skater should be able to let their personalities shine!

Caring for Practice Figure Skating Apparel

Practice figure skating apparel, like most specialty athletic clothing, isn’t inexpensive. Purchasing ice skating practice wear that is of good quality and made to last is a good plan and protecting your specialty fabrics from the negative effects of repeated laundering is a must! Follow these basic tips to keep your practice figure skating wear in great condition!

- Practice figure skating apparel is made from a combination of materials and usually always includes Lycra or spandex. The heat of the dryer will break down the integrity of this material over time and cause the elastic fibers to eventually deteriorate. Allowing your figure skating practice apparel to air dry will go the furtherest in helping maintain the look of your athletic fabrics

- Well-made figure skating practice wear should include treatments such as moisture wicking and antimicrobial properties. If the practice wear you select includes these treatments, fabric softeners will destroy their effectiveness over time. Avoid using fabric softener or additives to your wash and if possible, use a mild detergent such as Woolite on your practice apparel.

- Just like the heat of the dryer, washing your figure skating clothes in hot water will have a negative effect over time. Always wash these items in cold water and if possible, utilize your machine’s delicate or gentle wash cycle.

- If your practice wear have rhinestones on it, be sure to follow the above mentioned suggestions! Rhinestones are delicate and you need to be gentle when washing items with rhinestones on them to help them last!

I always turn my practice figure skating apparel items inside out and enclose them in a laundry bag to keep them from getting snagged or picked by other items in the wash – We are a busy household and I don’t have time to wash lots of separate tiny loads of laundry!

Always read the manufacturers instructions before washing a garment! These instructions are there to help you get the most life out of your clothing items!

Figure Skating Practice Dress: What to Look For

Choosing a figure skating practice dress that will hold up to hours of intense training is important. You not only want it to look cute on but you need it to be athletic. Certainly during those beginning stages of learning to figure skate, choosing a figure skatingdress simply because it is cute or has a flouncy skirt or sparkles is ok. But by the time you are spending a couple hours at a time on the ice, you need something that matches your level of athleticism.

Here a few things to consider:

1) Do the straps stay put despite your level of movement? Straps that are too loose, fall off the shoulders, or cause you to feel unsupported can be a distraction form your practice session. Consider the design shown. This criss cross design offers superior athletic performance while maintaining feminine details like the key hole design low on the back. These straps will not slip off the shoulders and the wide design helps them stay put for maximum comfort.

2) Does the figure skating practice dress give adequate chest support? No matter what your chest size, properly supporting your breasts during sports is important. Also, knowing that you can engage in figure skating moves such as a layback spin or layback Ina Bauer and stay covered in this area is important – you don’t want to hold back for fear you might fall out of your dress!

3) Is the figure skating practice dress made from athletic fabric or is it basic lycra? Basic lycra – like most printed lycra, velvets, and solids – stretch but aren’t ideal for the high level skater spending a couple hours sweating on the ice. Both of these features will aid in keeping you dryer and more comfortable during intense practice sessions.
